    Love the leafcutter bee leaf hole ! (or caterpillar hole) ONLY native plants can be pollinator host plants ! (moth and butterfly babies, ie caterpillars, can only eat certain leaves of certain native plants they evolved with . That's why: ONLY native plants help to heal the ecosystem. You rock Sprout ! Can wait to meet you at Ren Faire some year. Hopefully 2025.

    staying cool is hard in hot and humid Pittsburgh, Pa ren fair, my friend went with her teen daughter on a hot day and she fainted, the medics came over and helped her to the medic tent, long story short she drank some cold gatorade and rested for 30 min, then felt better and they let her leave. I always try pick a weekend when its cooler.

    "I love this texture it looks like leaves" -The garment, just being really wrinkled "O<>O" Thrift shopping for LARP is like THE best group activity AND its a great way to make some really unique outfits up~! I carried most of my LARP gear I thrifted with me for YEARS from move to move. I finally need to replace some things (and I finally decided I need more than the basic three outfits for three days + OOG clothes for downtime) so I'm probably going out this week or next to get prepped for the season. Whether new OR old to LARP, the best way to find unique stuff is to Thrift & Craft... It's all about how creatively you can look at the ordinary items around you! That green top would have been just a "meh" top to me before LARPing, but now that I've done this thing for a while I can see the "elven" potential. I still use the thrifted leather jacket I got from a Value Village, even 8 years later! I got it, and the arms were too tight, so I seamripped (over an hour to do omg it was tougher sewn than I realized) the arms off and trimmed the raw edges so they weren't stringy, and now I have this staple character piece that's a passable leather vest! I'm going to update it this year with some patches and other sewn on details, to make it more steampunky... But really, some of the BEST finds for your character can be found in these thrift hauls when you apply some creativity to it! Props also - I found a faux leather fanny pack/pouch with belt loops and a cursive letter H on it, and bought it for 8$(CAD). It's my FAVE herb pouch, lol. It's got that fancy embroidery on it, so it makes my character look a little more fancy when she's herb gathering (It also holds my phone and tissues etc). ALSO don't sleep on the fabric! The drapes, sheets and actual fabric lengths can ALL be repurposed to some pretty neat costuming if you've got the time to do a bit of sewing (you can do basic stitches and hand sewing even if you're new to sewing). With all the beginner friendly tutorials on costume making out there, that blanket with all the fur or that large thick drapery, can quickly turn into a thick cloak to keep you warm or a dress!

    Hey Meeka, I know I'm 5 yrs late to the party, but I just wanted to ask; At the beginning of the video you wee in the nasty swamp trial being chased by the abomination of fire. But then at the 30 second mark, you're back in the Tower shard trial. Is that how far back it set you when you die, died? I feel like the swamp trial has me on my last life because like you, he got me. A LOT. And I'm concerned I'm restarting my playthrough from the very, very beginning.

    Hi Question, I'm going to my first festival and I wanted to tip in gold dollar coins but I'm seeing a lot of mixed feelings online that people say theyre a HUGE annoyance vs others love the immersion. What's the general opinion of it from a worker/cast/entertainer's standpoint?

    • @MeekaChannel
      @MeekaChannel 2 місяці тому

      We definitely prefer dollars. We don’t really care about the immersion because this is how we make our living. But I’m not bothered by it either. Never once felt the need to complain about a $1 coin. My guess is the performers who complaining about the coins aren’t financially struggling like the rest of us lol. But a general rule is don’t tip with any “coin of the realm” or festival currency. It’s not real money and performers don’t need to use them because we already get free meals (usually). Last year I received over $100 in Coin of the Realm in tips, but luckily was allowed to exchange them for real money.

      Yeah they have changed how they sell. They probably get too many orders when made-to-order. So they make a batch and sell. And they all sell out within a day. They probably just need more workers making the ears.

    i had a weird paranormal ? experience with a fairy, i was on facebook video chat talking to me friend who lives in steubenville, oh about 50 min away. My head was itching for about 10 min, then she said i just saw a white thing fly out of you head and it looked like a fairy, it was about 3 -4 inches tall, this was winter, so no bugs, so i put the screen so i could see myself, about 10 min later, we both saw it fly back INTO MY HEAD ???

    I'm pretty sure that there are older stories of fae with wings, but no real description of them in most cases. Swanmaes and similar did have wings in some versions where it was a swans wings there, though they are swan based fae. Sylphs and a few similar ones are often described as having wings, many times with gossamer as the description for them...though they're more of air spirits that cross over into fae stuff. A lot of the time the wings are in association with what the Faerie was specifically tied to, so ones like gnomes or selkies wouldn't have wings, though one tied to the air might. A chunk of the issue is that a lot of the folklore and stories originate from a LOT of different places and then were associated together into a more singular grouping, often shifting context at the same time. Satyrs and fauns, for example, are associated as fae creatures, but originated a divine creations from the greeks/romans as forest spirits, then, later, began being viewed as fae as well. There are also limits to what was actually written down and learned since there were hundreds or thousands of variations of the lore for some types that were condensed as time went on with bits lost or replaced by a semi-similar description.

    • @MeekaChannel
      @MeekaChannel 2 місяці тому

      I think you’re right. I think a “fairy” probably didn’t have wings because they were considered earth spirits. But the air spirits would have at least feathered wings. And there’s so much lost to history. Thanks for your input!

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos 2 місяці тому

      @@MeekaChannelNot all fairies were earth spirits, Selkies, for example, were definitely fae and associated with water and the ocean (And has a pretty horrific context with regard to history)

  • @RicktheGrumpyGnome
    @RicktheGrumpyGnome 2 місяці тому

    I have watched several of your videos before I made an account so I could comment. Wanting to express my opinions to folks like you was why I did it. It takes real courage to put yourself out there in the public eye. To remain in the public eye takes iron skin. I took a break from it for 5 to 6 years, deleting my social media accounts. The reason I tell you that is that I want you to understand I empathize. I have seen some my interviews edited in a way to reframe what I said, both in my hobbies as well as professionally. Your Sprout videos are what brought me to your channel. Sprout is an absolutely brilliant character and you play her amazingly well. You literally bring the character to life and she is pure artistic genius. Your work on her is inspirational. From their I found you to be not only a beautiful artist but also generous in sharing your time and knowledge with people. Your insight into the Renn Faire community, which I have very little experience of has been fascinating. My background is more historical re-enactment and fantasy larping in Europe (more recently) as well as the SCA in the States (back in the 20th Century). So I appreciate being able to learn from your videos and be inspired. I think the world is a better place for you and your artistic expression. This Grumpy Gnome is wishing you and your family the very best.

    • @RicktheGrumpyGnome
      @RicktheGrumpyGnome 2 місяці тому

      Please let me add, I think with Sprout you created a very marketable IP. Hopefully you have taken steps to protect that. You might want to consider making children's book, especially some focusing on environmentalism. You could get some mileage out of comedic, yet genuinely informative environmental messages right now on various platforms and with various organization partnerships. It can be a real maze to navigate but I think the iconic image Sprout provides gives you a uniquely powerful image to use both as a voice for positive change but also to help you generate revenue for you and your daughter. If had the resources I would invest in you myself but sadly I do not. The best I can offer is advice based on a lifetime of bitter experiences. Being an artist is a real job. Do not let the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune wound you too deeply. We all strut and fret upon this stage and none of are getting out of this adventure alive. Hope dies last!

    Glad to see you back. <3 I never really liked the way those shows took advantage of people. They often forget about the humanity of their subjects in favour of making the most controversy as possible. I'm glad you were able to meet one of your dreams and that you got out of the bad headspace. Personally, while the outfit is cute, you look way better in your normal clothes; confident, happy, just generally shining and brilliant. You looked so uncomfortable in what they chose for you. The worst part about those shows is the way they almost backhandedly shame their subject's personal preferences and act like their transformation is making them "normal." The self you show us here on youtube is wonderful and don't ever let anyone change you. <3

      Yeah we have fairies here who get paid $100-$350 and hour but that’s usually for like birthday parties or corporate events. Renaissance festivals is kind of a different situation. They’re known for paying the lowest rates sometimes for performer standards. But it’s way easier to find renfaire jobs. It’s more consistent and they provide a living space for 2 whole months sometimes.

    When people say "Real Job" they usually mean non part time, sustainable for a career that will pay you an income to be self sufficient and perhaps raise a family on with actual benefits. Whey you say a "professional fairy" it's really under the umbrella of a costume performer. Which can be everything from A Cosplayer at a convention, to a Strip o gram, to a top tier gig at Vegas in an on stage performance with a 10 year contract. In my opinion "real jobs" are industries that people need. For example, you're always going to need doctors, lawyers and plumbers. People don't need a pokemon store or a cat clothing designer

      Lol just wow. How boring do you have to be to think the only REAL jobs are the jobs that are “essential” jobs. I guess anyone flipping burgers part time on some days and people stocking shelves the other days don’t have real jobs either. In fact, I guess like 90% of people don’t have real jobs by your logic.

      @@MeekaChannel because good times don't last forever. It's not boring. It's being responsibly realistic. This was the mentality of most people in the post war and depression era's of the 40's and 50's.

      Re: menial labor jobs, are not usual an end aspiration. They're a rung in the cooperate ladder that people have to climb. But I suppose when people think about "real jobs" (we're just debating about terminology of the phrase) they probably wouldn't include them either in the sense of it being a full time life career

      Right, so this is from the "I'm stuck doing something I don't care about to pay the bills and I don't want to see people validated who avoided that" school of real work.

    Any job that allows you to put food on the table and a roof over your head, is a real job. Those people will probably tell you that movie actors don't have real jobs.

    I must ask: did you create the character and hire her out to Ren Faires? Or how did this work and can this be applied to any character within the Ren Faire Space.

    • @MeekaChannel
      @MeekaChannel 4 місяці тому

      I am the creator and performer behind Sprout. I work completely alone. There are other fairies who contract other performers out to festivals. Most people make their own characters and work for themselves. I sure that could be applied to any type of character as long as it fits in the style of renaissance festivals.

    One of the unfortunate things with it is that so many RenFests seem to be lagging behind in payment methods if nothing else. ORF really needs to upgrade their wifi and even just cell service because it's the one place that I've tended to run out of cash and I don't have the time to wait in line multiple times a day at their ATMs. I'm quite happy at places there that have working credit machines... I've also noticed that a lot of the wandering entertainers also end up with issues because it's hard for most people to tell between cast and wandering entertainer there for things...stage shows have an easy thing there for telling them apart (And I tend to go for merch more than a direct tip there because it tends to be more of something to remember the faire by). Additionally, I think you might be in a further problem area as most of the fairy stuff tends to be more aimed at kids who don't have the money in the first place to tip...

    • @MeekaChannel
      @MeekaChannel 4 місяці тому

      I agree with you. The cell service at ORF is unfortunately mostly a city issue, and there are a LOT of issues with Harveysburg. I would say most parents don’t tip me, but I get plenty of “passer byers” who literally just walk by and tip me that make up for the parents who don’t tip. But that’s all right. I know parents probably spend a lot of money for their kids there with all the rides.

      @@MeekaChannel During my visits last year, there were a LOT of rather young kids allowed to run, essentially, free while the parents did other things. And, yeah, ORF has had a lot of issues with Harveysburg...and I haven't heard anything about the case continuing there with that legal battle when it had been on hold because of the november elections when one of the things for it was to dissolve the town.
